Hard Surface + Maintenance
Your flooring represents a substantial investment and, like all fine furnishings, requires proper care to maintain its beauty and value.
LVP Care & Maintenance
Your Kinsley Carpet Mills LVP flooring will provide years of carefree use. You will find that it is not only beautiful, but durable. It is also much easier to maintain than most other hard surface flooring products, thanks to its tough protective finish and moisture resistance. It only takes a few simple care and maintenance steps to keep your Kinsley Carpet Mills floor looking beautiful for years to come.
To help protect and keep your floor clean, follow these proper care and maintenance guidelines:
Preventative Measures
✓ Prevent indentations and scratches by the use of non-staining floor protectors on the legs of chairs, appliances, and all heavy furniture
✓ Floor protectors should be at least one inch in diameter
✓ Do not flood floor or subject to standing water
✓ Protect your floor from tracked-in dirt by using mats at all outside entrances. Mats should have a non-rubberized backing and be marked as non-staining
✓ Avoid tracking-in tar or asphalt from driveways
✓ Avoid high heel shoes on your floor as they can cause permanent indentations
✓ Protect your floors against burns. Burns from cigarettes matches or other extremely hot items can
cause permanent damage
✓ Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this can cause discoloration
Cleaning and Maintenance
✓ Sweep the floor regularly with a soft bristle broom to remove loose dirt. For every day maintenance, a mop moistened/damp with warm water will suffice
✓ For a heavier cleaning, you can use a low PH (neutral) cleaner
✓ Spills should be cleaned up immediately
Do NOT use the following on your Kinsley LVP floor:
✗ Soap based detergents
✗ ALL Swiffer’s (wet/dry)
✗ Abrasive or mop and shine products
✗ Floor wax
✗ Ammonia or bleaches
✗ Vacuum cleaner with a rotating beater bar
✗ Steam mop
✗ Always read the cautionary information on all cleaners prior to use
IMPORTANT: Never push, pull or drag furniture, appliances or other items across the floor. When moving furniture or heavy items, always lift and carry the items. Place hardboards between the flooring and object to move.
Rubber Flooring Care & Maintenance
Post Installation
Kinsley’s rubber flooring does not include a protective finish when shipped from the manufacturing facility. It is highly recommended that the newly installed rubber floor be protected using a tarpaulin or other cover until the floor can be cleaned and/or sealed.
Initial Cleaning
Do not wash the floor for at least 5 days after installation. An initial cleaning needs to be done to remove any dirt and grit from the job site and to prepare the floor prior to applying a sealer or finish. Failure to clean properly will cause finish bonding issues as well as the entrapment of dirt in the floor. To avoid possible damage to the flooring, the following should never be used on the floor:
✗ Steel wool or abrasive bushes
✗ Abrasive or alkaline cleaners
✗ Solvents of any type
The floor should be cleaned with a neutral cleaner.
✓ Thoroughly sweep or vacuum the floor to remove all loose dirt, dust, and debris.
✓ Apply a neutral cleaner to the floor with a mop (or automatic floor scrubber). Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
✓ Use a wet vac or mop to remove cleaning solution.
✓ Rinse floor with clean, cold water. Remove all water with wet vac or mop. Allow rubber to dry thoroughly.
✓ Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper application of the floor sealer (if applicable)
Regular Floor Maintenance
A regular maintenance program is extremely important and will increase the life of the floor and finish. The frequency of cleaning will depend on the amount of traffic on the floor. For general cleaning, a neutral cleaner should be used.
Important: To prevent slip and fall accidents, always use a wet floor sign when rubber flooring has been cleaned and is open to floor traffic.
Restorative Floor Maintenance
When noticeable accumulation of dirt and other contaminants become embedded in the rubber floor finish, a quality floor stripper should be used to remove the existing finish. Areas typically needed to be restored include high-traffic walkways, tight or confined spaces, and along baseboards.
After the floor stripper has been applied and removed per the manufacturer’s instructions, a neutral cleaner should be
applied to the stripped area. See general cleaning instructions of this page.
Once the rubber flooring has been cleaned and allowed to dry, a sealer can be used to restore the finish of the treated area.
